Adult Life Lab Art Show

12/2/2023 - 12/10/2023 Ketchup City Creative - 612 Main Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15215

Celebrate the art of adulting with a DIY creative mindset and be a part of our growing international Adult Life Lab creative community. Adult Life Lab is a short film and a community-based DIY filmmaking and art project. This multidisciplinary collaboration is about adulting, but the bigger story is how a group of over 70 people in Turku, Finland, Rome, Georgia (US) and now Pittsburgh, are making the story of Henry come alive. Henry, who has never entirely adjusted to adult life, finds company with three co-workers with the same challenges. Together, they form a \'laboratory\' that invents mostly failing devices to solve their adulting problems, but all they need is one to succeed. The purpose of the exhibit is to immerse visitors in the culture of DIY community-based invention, filmmaking and art, and to share key aspects of the Adult Life Lab film. See a world of imagination, creativity, and DIY ingenuity featured in photography, video installation, and quirky ‘adulting’ inventions, handcrafted with love from Finland. Event Details: Opening Night Reception: December 2, 2023, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Exhibit Dates: December 2 - 10, 2023 Art Talk: December 9, 2023, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Featuring Filmmaker\/Artist Amy Scatliff and special guest speaker Emma Riva, Managing Editor of UP Magazine We often find ourselves trudging through life’s beige moments. We may feel anxious, uncomfortable, our creativity stunted, our minds craving the comfort and energy of color. The Adult Life Lab is here to tap into the personal, psychological, and emotional aspect that has been pushed away due to what is deemed in society as “adulthood”. The point is to utilize artistic invention in what may seem unconventional to feel more alive in a loving, caring, and deeply humanistic way. More about Adult Life Lab The short film (in-production 2022-ongoing) involves many first-time cast and crew members and local Finnish organizations (Hacklab Turku, Ekotori, Ullrike Artisan Felt and Yarn) who are partnering with film professionals to make the narrative come to life. ALL is live-action footage mixed with 2-D animation and archival footage from Henry\'s invention journal.
