Things to do in Pittsburgh to keep warm this Winter
What do you do when the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers are frozen, the Polar Vortex is crushing the Steel City and you have a touch of cabin fever? How about trying a few of these fun, unique and warm indoor activities in and around the city that will make you forget about winter for a while or at least get you out of the cold for a few hours.
Visit a Local Cinema or Theater
Pittsburgh has many unique movie houses and stage theaters to take in retro films, see local plays or enjoy Broadway performances. Here are a few cool venues that you will want to visit.
Hollywood Theater in Dormont
The Hollywood Theater is located at 1449 Potomac Avenue in Dormont’s central business district and is within walking distance of many local shops and restaurants, including pizza houses, gyros, Italian, Chinese, Thai, and Mexican cuisine, a sandwich shop, a dessert and coffee shop, a diner, and several taverns. Kelly Strayhorn Theater in the East End
Named for two of Pittsburgh’s most celebrated talents in the last century—dancer Gene Kelly and composer Billy Strayhorn. The Pittsburgh Cultural District
Located between the Convention Center and Stanwix Street in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh, the 14-square block Cultural District encompasses over 90 retail shops, 50 dining establishments, seven world-class theaters, eight public parks and art installations and a dozen art galleries.
